Apple is reportedly preparing to introduce the Apple Watch Series 12 later this year, and a new leak suggests that the upcoming smartwatch could bring back a ceramic case option.
The Apple Watch Series 12 is expected to be announced alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series at Apple’s annual September launch event. While previous reports have suggested that the new Apple Watch could retain a design similar to the current generation, the latest leak points to changes in the materials used for the casing.
Apple Watch Series 12 Could Get Ceramic Case
According to a post by tipster Kosutami on X, Apple could introduce the Apple Watch Series 12 with a ceramic casing. The claim also follows earlier reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who suggested that Apple could bring back ceramic case options for future Apple Watch models.
If introduced, the ceramic version could sit at the premium end of the Apple Watch lineup and give buyers another case material option alongside aluminium and titanium.
Apple previously used ceramic for its Apple Watch Edition lineup. The ceramic finish was introduced with the Apple Watch Series 2 in 2016 and later appeared on the Apple Watch Series 5 Edition in 2019. The Series 5 was the last Apple Watch model to offer a ceramic case.
Apple Watch Series 12 Expected Launch Date
The Apple Watch Series 12 is rumoured to debut at Apple’s upcoming fall launch event, which could reportedly take place on September 8. The smartwatch is also expected to run watchOS 27.
Apple could announce several other products at the same event, including the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and Apple Watch Ultra 4. Apple is also expected to unveil its first foldable iPhone as part of its upcoming hardware lineup.
However, Apple has not officially confirmed the launch date, case materials or specifications of the Apple Watch Series 12.

Apple Watch Series 12: What to Expect

Apple is expected to reveal official details closer to the launch event.
