Apple could be preparing a new iMac powered by its upcoming M6 chip, according to a recent report. The next-generation all-in-one desktop is reportedly in development and could arrive before the end of 2026.
The upcoming model is not expected to bring a major design overhaul. Instead, Apple could focus on upgrading the internal hardware with its next-generation Apple silicon while introducing changes to the available colour options.
Apple iMac With M6 Chip Could Arrive in 2026
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is working on a new iMac featuring an M6 chip. The report suggests that the upcoming desktop will retain much of the existing design rather than receiving a significant visual redesign.
The M6 processor is expected to be the main upgrade for the new iMac. Apple could also introduce new colour options as part of the refresh.
While the company has not officially confirmed the new iMac, the reported launch would mark the first update to Apple’s all-in-one desktop since 2024.
Apple iMac Has Followed a Slower Upgrade Cycle
The iMac has received updates less frequently than Apple’s other major product lines.
Apple introduced the redesigned 24-inch iMac with the M1 chip in 2021. The company then updated the desktop with the M3 chip in 2023, followed by the current M4-powered iMac in 2024.
Apple skipped an M2-powered iMac and has also not introduced an M5 version, resulting in a relatively long gap between some generations.
Current iMac M4 Specifications
The current iMac was launched in 2024 with Apple’s M4 chip and features a 24-inch 4.5K Retina display.
The display has a resolution of 4,480 × 2,520 pixels and can also be configured with a nano-texture glass option.
The current iMac is available in several colour options, including Blue, Green, Orange, Pink, Purple, Silver and Yellow.
In India, the current-generation iMac starts at Rs. 1,74,900 for the base configuration with an 8-core CPU, 8-core GPU, 16GB RAM and 256GB storage.
The higher-end configuration with 32GB RAM and 2TB storage, along with a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU, is priced at Rs. 3,67,900.
What to Expect From the 2026 iMac
If the report is accurate, the upcoming iMac could continue with Apple’s existing 24-inch all-in-one design while receiving a performance boost from the M6 chip.
New colour options could also give the refreshed desktop a visual update, although a major redesign is reportedly not planned.
Apple has yet to officially announce the new iMac, so its final specifications, pricing, colour options and launch date remain unconfirmed.
